Flushing of multi-year sea ice from the Arctic basin

Thomas Homer-Dixon - Flushing of multi-year sea ice from the Arctic basin

Amazing animation of the ice build up and movement in the arctic through the winter of 2007/2008. Note especially how the ice actually flows down around Greenland (upper right) and how even during the winter large portions of the thicker muti-year ice were breaking up (lower right corner). Despite our rather cold winter the new ice formed in the arctic is the least every seen and if the same melting occurs this summer the arctic ice may almost completely disappear this year.
